Community service is a pivotal part of the C5 experience, with every student required to complete at least 250 hours during their five years with us. That’s the minimum, mind you. Many go above and beyond their commitment. This work is an important tenant of our program, but the commitment is modeled by and begins with our staff.
In conjunction with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and Trees Atlanta, some of the C5 Georgia staff recently spent a steamy afternoon working to beautify our city on the Beltline.
“When I found the opportunity, I thought it would be perfect for our staff,” said Shana Bagley, Marketing Manager. “Not only was it a great opportunity to network with fellow professionals, but also an opportunity to give back to our city—and show our students that they’re not the only ones who are working to make an impact on our community. It is important for them to see us serving others.”
Office Manager, Ayaan Forstall, commented on her experience: “Growing up in a family that values service, I am always looking for ways to improve my community. Through service learning I am able to give back in a way I may not have thought of and use my experience to reflect on what I can do different on a daily basis to make my community a better place. Trees Atlanta reminds me of how important it is to care for local green space in order to maintain a healthy and clean local environment.”
Opportunities to be a service-oriented leader are everywhere! Serve in your community, show your children or students that being involved is more than rewarding, and please let us know about any service experiences you love, too. We’re always looking for new ways to engage and help.
