Sarah HamilOur students are amazing. And you’ll think so too once you get to know them, so we’d like to personally introduce you to a few. Today, let’s say hi to Sarah Hamil.

Sarah has lived her “whole entire life” in Cumming, Georgia, where she attended West Forsyth High. Nominated by a middle school counselor, her first impression of C5 Georgia wasn’t a great one. “I was not at all okay with it. Mostly I didn’t want to do this ‘being away from home for a month in the woods with a bunch of people I do not know’ thing. It just was not okay with me at the time.” Fortunately, she warmed up! “My favorite part of the C5 Georgia program was my Wyoming experience,” she reveals. “It was also my most challenging experience though, because it taught me a great deal about leadership, communication, and survival skills, all while I got to see the great views of Wyoming. But it was a struggle and a fight to finish out the hike. However, with teamwork and determination, we successfully completed it together.”

Sarah is currently enrolling in school online to complete her core credits, but will transfer to Western Carolina next year and major in psychology with a minor in business management. She also aspires to work with the Night Light program—an organization that helps girls that are trafficked—a cause she became passionate about during her class’s C5 Georgia ACT Now! Leadership Summit.

We’re thankful that after an unsure start, Sarah has found her place in C5, and the world. “C5 Georgia has changed me, my life, and my perspective on life forever. I can honestly say that before C5, I wasn’t making the best decisions. Once I found this place, I had a place I belonged and I could grow without all the peer pressure that’s in the school systems these days,” she says. “C5 Georgia helped me focus and create goals so I had something to look forward to in my life. I love C5 so much and I am so lucky to be able to call them my family.”
